The Escola de Especialistas de Aeronáutica (EEAR), located in Guaratinguetá (SP) and recognized as the largest technical-military education complex in South America, has modernized its simulated instruction for the training of air traffic controllers through the implementation of the TATIC 3D SIM Simulator, developed by Saipher. The solution, fully approved after the successful completion of the SAT (Site Acceptance Test), integrates cutting-edge technology and multiple modules, raising the institution’s training standards.

The implementation of the TATIC 3D SIM Simulator is the result of a joint initiative by CISCEA — Comissão de Implantação do Sistema de Controle do Espaço Aéreo (Airspace Control System Implementation Commission) — which, in partnership with Saipher, enabled the update of systems aligned with the evolution of SISCEAB (Brazilian Airspace Control System). According to Lucas Rodrigues, Saipher's Project Manager, “this endeavor also stood out for its high level of complexity, being the first Control Tower (TWR) simulator developed entirely by a national company, establishing a milestone for Brazil’s aeronautical technology industry.”

According to Bruno Shou, Saipher's Product Manager, “the main technical differentiator of this project was the adoption of modern rendering technologies and significant improvements in user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), using up-to-date programming languages. Additionally, Saipher's consolidated expertise in aerodrome air traffic management ensured an excellent delivery.”

For Emanoel Silva, Saipher's Product Owner, “another key highlight is that the simulator was delivered 100% integrated with the TATIC TWR, providing users with a complete and authentic experience of a real Control Tower environment.”

Training

As part of the implementation, training was conducted with EEAR instructors, specifically at the Galpão BCT, enabling the full qualification of the team for operating the simulator. It is estimated that approximately 100 BCT students will be trained annually with the new solution, based on the average of the last two selection processes (around 50 per semester).

More About the SAT

During the SAT, only functional criteria related to system operation were validated, including integration tests between the various simulator modules and the TATIC SIM, ensuring the solution’s full operability. The activity involved representatives from the following institutions: from CISCEA, Barbara Cristina Alves Silveira and Luiz Alberto Silva da Conceição; from Saipher, Lucas Donadel Rodrigues, Bruno Manuel Shou, Emanoel Engracio da Silva, Thales Araujo, and José Perotti; from ICEA, Captain João Paulo, Lieutenant Adeilton, CV Nilson Cavalcante de Sousa, and Sergeant Igor; and from EEAR, Warrant Officer Alexandro, and Sergeants Vasconcelos, Vitor, and Terra.

TATIC 3D SIM Features

Implemented at the Galpão BCT, where the simulator is physically installed, the delivery included essential modules and functionalities, such as Supervisor, Supervisor Working Position (SWP), 3D Rendering Visualization, Controller Working Position (CWP), Pseudo-pilot Working Position (PWP), in addition to the TATIC SIM, which fully simulates the Control Tower (TATIC TWR).

The new simulator replaces the previous system, the TSim by Linfair, implemented in 2009.

Among the main educational benefits provided by the TATIC 3D SIM Simulator are:

Detailed and realistic 3D graphical representation;

Real-time response of flight kinematics and weather conditions;

Features equivalent to those found in a real Control Tower, including: weather data visualization, airfield lighting control, communication system, and air and ground radar visualization;

Modern, intuitive, and user-friendly interface and experience.
